NEW JOB!! :)

So sorry it's been over two months since my last post!! I finished up student teaching, which was an amazing experience. I learned SO much from my CT, other building teachers and principal. I just found out today that I GOT A JOB!! as a kindergarten teacher at a brand new school opening in the fall :) :) I used my thick portfolio, letters of recommendation, and confidence and it paid off!

SO: to all you KINDERGARTEN teachers out there... HELP! I will need tips for the first day of school as well as the first week, I have never experienced the first day of Kinder and I'm imagining there is a handful of tears!! Also, any advice in general or *one thing you wish you would have known* sent my way would be amazing!! Ask your other blogger friends as well!

Thanks and I'm so so so excited.

Welcome to the amazing world of kindergarten.

WARNING: The first 3 weeks of kindergarten is like herding cats. Just hold on and you will get them in order.

OK: I feel the MOST important thing to do the first few weeks is establish your expectations. Getting your classroom management under control is MUCHO, MUCHO important.

My feeling is that you set your classroom expectations and keep reinforcing them until they are the norm.

You have probably been at the grocery store when you hear a parent tell their child, "Put that down, I said, 'Put that down.' I don't want to tell you again, 'Put that DOWN!'" Then the child only responds when the parent has lost their cool or threatened life or limb.

You don't want to be that teacher. Say it once, keep it short, then reinforce (follow through). You will save yourself some valuable teaching time by being firm and consistent.

Always praise them, always love them, always laugh with them! They will LOVE you!!!

yay congrats girl!!! Kindergarten is the BEST! that is so great that you get to be at a brand new school! I would say the number one thing that got me through this year (my first year teaching!) is to see the good in every kid! No matter how obnoxious they are or how many times you repeat yourself, remember the sweet things about them. You are a very special person to them! Good luck...I'm looking forward to hearing how it goes! :)

I am becoming a follower so if you want follow me too and I will post great things I find. Congratulations too on the job- very exciting to get that first teaching job!
